People often say, “Your body can only use 30 grams of protein at a time!” But is that true?
Last year, researchers from the Netherlands set out to find the answer. They studied 36 young, healthy individuals.
After having them exercise, they were given either 25 grams of protein, 100 grams of protein, or a drink with no protein at all (a placebo).
Over the next 12 hours, the researchers collected several participants' blood samples and muscle tests.
They discovered that those who consumed 100 grams of protein could digest all of it.
They also found that the group consuming 100 grams of protein had the highest rates of muscle protein synthesis, meaning they added new protein to their muscles, building more muscle.
The main takeaway from this study is that you can absorb any amount of protein you eat, whether 20, 50, or 100 grams. So, there’s no need to worry—make sure you’re getting enough protein!
